SAGITTARIUS AND JUPITER
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, travel, knowledge, truth, scholars, philosophy, optimism, wisdom, abundance, freedom, holy places, nobility, growth, and enjoyment. In ancient astrology, Jupiter was seen as one of the most positive planets, if not the most positive planet. It’s the planet of good fortune and good spirit. Jupiter likes to have fun, celebrate, be optimistic, laugh, eat, drink, and be merry.
Jupiter loves to expand its horizon, and is looking at the big picture envisioning a wider dream. Jupiter energy has optimism and joy, and an enjoyment for life. There is a larger-than-life quality to Jupiter. Jupiter is also generous practicing the spirit of giving.
It’s no coincidence that Sagittarius is at the end of the Gregarian calendar year around the holidays when there’s more of an attitude and practice of giving, celebration, and being jovial. There also tends to be more travel, which Jupiter loves to do.
Sagittarius is the mutable, fire sign of Jupiter. Jupiter also rules Pisces, another mutable sign. There’s an adaptive, flexible quality to Jupiter because it rules two mutable signs. Mutable goes with the flow, and is changeable and adaptable. As the fire sign of Jupiter, Sagittarius is spontaneous and boundless. With Jupiter and Sag, there are no limits. There are no plans. There are no boundaries.
Sagittarius has a tendency to be very generous, whether it's with money, sharing resources, hosting gatherings, or teaching a class. They're giving people with a generous spirit. This is also true for people who have Jupiter in the first house, whether or not they have any planets in Sagittarius or Pisces. People with Jupiter in the first house will have those qualities as well. Jupiterian people are generous, supportive, and share more easily.
With Jupiter’s association with scholars, truth, knowledge, and philosophy, Sagittarius loves to learn. They have a zest for knowledge and learning. Many Sag folks have master's degrees or PhDs, are professors, philosophers, or majored in philosophy, religion, spirituality, or education. Sag and Jupiter are lifelong learners. They have a quest for knowledge, and they love to teach. Lots of Jupiterian and/or Sagittarius folks are teachers and are always taking a class.
The symbol of Sagittarius is the archer. Sag aims for freedom and learning. Jupiter is all about freedom. Both Sag and Pisces need a lot of freedom in their life, the freedom to do their own thing, and freedom from time constraints. Going back to the boundlessness of Jupiter. As a sign that needs a lot of freedom, it’s best for Sag to find careers where they can have a flexible schedule so that they are able to engage in multiple pursuits that are meaningful to them.
Jupiterian and Sagittarius folks, especially Sag Sun, Rising and Moon, love to travel. They're either always traveling or wanting to travel. Not everyone has the money and resources to travel, but Sag/Jupiter folks, somehow, often make it work regardless. Some are backpackers or nomads, or they have supportive people in their life who help out with their accommodations. Even if a Sag is a homebody, they are exploring a lot in their home engaged in multiple home activities or projects, or taking a number of online classes. As a diurnal (daytime) fire sign, Sag tends to be busy needing to expressive itself outwardly or engage with the outside world, even if they are introverts and homebodies.
Jupiter and Sag have an association with religion and spirituality, or being more open to the world of the mystical. Sagittarius can have more of an association with religion, whereas, Pisces, the other Jupiter ruled sign, is more tied to spirituality. Some Sag and/or Jupiterian people are spiritual and religious, or they teach religion or a traditional form of meditation. Sag and Jupiter can be open to a variety of spiritual or mystical practices like the tarot, past life work, astrology, or other spiritual or philosophical practices.
To sum it up, Sag and Jupiter have a quest for meaning, exploration and knowledge, a love of teaching, an endless optimism, a fun sense of humor, and a jovial spirit for life.
