MARS RETROGRADE IN LEO AND CANCER, 2024-2025
If you would prefer to listen instead, you can do so on this episode here.
Mars begins its retrograde in Leo on December 6th, 2024, then it will move into Cancer on January 6th, 2025 and stay retrograde until February 23rd, 2025.
While society loves to set New Year's resolutions at the beginning of the Gregarian calendar year and come out of the gate swinging putting those goals into action, this is not necessarily the year to start off with great ambition and drive.
However, Mars retrogrades are going to affect everyone differently. Some people will, all of a sudden, feel this burst of energy and motivation that they’ve been lacking, and focus on achieving a specific goal. These people will be running off to the races. This often happens for folks who were born under a Mars retrograde, but it can even be true for some who weren’t as well.
Others will feel sluggish, less motivated, less energized, and feel like doing a whole lot of nothing. Either way, you’ll want to listen to how YOU feel. No need to put pressure on yourself to set new goals and intentions for the new year if that's not how you're feeling. Don't force yourself to do things that you really don't want to do. No need to be ambitious and driven and start a new project when that's not what you're actually feeling.
Mars retrograde in January and February is a time of review and reflection in relation to the Cancer part of your chart. December’s Mars retrograde will be focused on the Leo part of your chart. What houses do Leo and Cancer occupy for you? The topics of these houses will be where your review and reflection, and perhaps, energy and action, will be focused.
The Sun rules Leo and the Moon rules Cancer, so this three-month retrograde period is all about the luminaries, the two brightest lights guiding and influencing our life.
We’re dealing with themes of the self, how we identify, how we’re recognized, our vitality, our body, home, and family.
Mars retro in Leo asks us, Who am I? Who do I want to be? What do I want to be known and recognized for?
Mars retro in Cancer asks us, Where do I feel at home? What and whom truly nourishes me? Where and with whom do I feel safe and secure?
The Sun represents our vitality and the Moon represents our body, thus other questions are, What gives me vitality? What feeds my soul and nurtures my body? What do I need to survive and thrive in this world? What do I need to be my fully expressed, creative self?
Retrogrades are best for listening to your body, and going with the flow as much as possible. I’ve noticed some key lessons from previous Mars retrogrades…
4 Lessons Of Mars Retrograde In Leo
Patience. This is a slow period. Mars represents speed and energy, but when it is retrograde, it’s more on the turtle’s path. However, just because something isn’t happening when it usually does doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Some things take time to develop, especially intentional and meaningful things. If you find yourself more impatient than usual, find something fun and creative to do to take your attention away from the feeling of waiting.
Don’t believe all the hype/drama/gossip. Mars represents drama, heat and passion, and a Mars retrograde can stir up a lot of rumors with the media going on a frenzy. Don’t believe all of of the hype. With the first part of the retrograde happening in Leo, this will have to do with leaders and people in positions of power, or people who tend to be in the spotlight. Mars is a truth teller, and the truth might be harder to reveal during this time, but the truth will be illuminated all in good time.
Blow off steam. You might feel extra frustrated during this time or be more in touch with what you are angry about in your life. Try to find a safe outlet to express your anger and frustration without harming someone else. Don’t be afraid to have truthful conversations with someone, but also try to be thoughtful about how you do it.
Trust your intuition. With the Mars retrograde in Cancer in January and February, this is an invitation to develop a deeper relationship with your intuition. As a water sign ruled by the Moon, Cancer is highly sensitive and intuitive to others and its environment. Try to make decisions slowly checking in with your gut. Does this really feel like the right decision for me?
In conclusion, some people will experience this Mars retrograde as a time of slowing down, feeling less motivated and driven, and retreating inward clinging to the comforts of their home. For others, this Mars retrograde will light a fire inside what’s been dormant, and one will feel inspired to act on a goal they’re passionate about.
