ARE YOU EXPERIENCING A DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL?
The Astrology Of Your Experience
There are various astrological transits that can make you feel like you’re having a dark night of the soul experience. It’s a challenging time, and a time of deep, spiritual rebirth. Do you feel like you've been having this experience? If so, here are some possible reasons why that might be.
Saturn and/or Mars Are Transiting Your 12th House
The 12th house is the house of hidden things, the unconscious, the unknown, loneliness, isolation, aloneness. It's the house of Saturn in Hellenistic astrology. It's one of the most challenging, if not THE most challenging house, and it's also a spiritual house that can call you to deepen your spiritual relationship and relationship with the unseen world. Of all the houses in your birth chart, I would classify the 12 house as THE house of the "dark night of the soul". The experience feels challenging and lonely, and it can give you a spiritual rebirth if you go deep with it.
So, when the two most challenging planets, Mars and Saturn, are transiting your 12th house, then life can feel especially challenging, whether externally and/or internally. Mars is usually in one sign for six weeks, so this could be a six week experience if Mars is in your 12th house, but it would be more potent if Mars has a lengthy stay in your 12th house like it did in 2022-2023 when it was in Gemini for seven months. That would have affected Cancer rising folks the most.
Saturn is in one sign for 2-3 years so if Saturn is transiting your 12th house, then this dark night of the soul experience is a long-term growth opportunity.
Saturn and/or Pluto Are Transiting Next To Your Ascendant, Sun or Moon
Both Saturn and Pluto can represent death and offer us transformative experiences, so when these two planets are next to your ascendant, Sun and/or Moon, then it's a time of deep growth, but not one that feels easy. This kind of transit can feel like an identity crisis, restriction in your life, and/or experiencing a theme of loss like losing relationships, jobs, homes, etc. Saturn represents endings so you might experience a number of endings, long-held cycles ending in order for new ones to begin. Pluto goes deep, reveals the muck in our lives, and exposes unhealthy or unequal power dynamics, which can, obviously, be a challenging time, and one that can call our attention to living a life that serves you better.
You're Going Through Your Saturn Return
A Saturn return happens roughly around 27-30 years old and 57-60 years old. It's a time of endings and new beginnings that are more aligned with where you want to go in your life. Saturn offers rewards for doing the hard, inner work necessary for growth over time, and if one goes deep and listens to the new callings of their soul, then they will, ultimately, benefit from this transit.
You're In A New Moon Progressed Lunation Phase
If you're not familiar with the Progressed Moon Cycle, check out my blog post here where I share all about it. The New Moon Progressed phase is the darkest phase of the cycle, so one might feel like they're wandering around in the dark forest trying to find their new path. There's a lot of unknown in this phase because a whole new progressed moon cycle has begun and your new path has not been illuminated yet. This phase lasts for years, but don't let that scare you, this is a highly important phase that is necessary for a new chapter in your life.
The "dark night of the soul" experience can last for weeks, months, or years depending on what transit you're having and what those planetary transits are aspecting in your birth chart.
This can include some of the most spiritually profound experiences in your life.
