NORTH NODE IN ARIES, SOUTH NODE IN LIBRA: The courage to release relationships in order to blossom
On July 17th, 2024, the nodes switched signs. The north node moved into Aries and the south node moved in Libra. The nodes are these points (not planets) in the sky that cross the path of the ecliptic between the Sun and the Moon that define the eclipses.
The nodes and eclipses initiate endings and new beginnings. These endings and new beginnings have been happening in the areas of your life represented by Aries and Libra, wherever you have those signs in your birth chart. When we have eclipses in Aries and Libra, these parts of your chart and life are activated.
Some of the new endings and beginnings that the nodes and eclipses can stir may have to do with a new job, relationship, living situation, sense of self and identity, new interests or hobbies, new habits, adopting new beliefs.
The north node has been ruled by Mars (as Mars rules Aries), and the south node has been ruled by Libra (as Venus rules Libra). One symbolism of these planets and signs is that Mars/Aries can represent the self and Venus/Libra can represent other. Being an individual (Mars) verses being connected and in harmony with each other (Venus). Mars/Aries loves its freedom and independence. Venus/Libra wants to bond and connect.
The nodes in these signs have been pointing us towards a new relationship with ourselves and with each other asking us, What do we need in our relationships? What do we need in relationship with ourselves? What do we need in our relationships with others?
The north node hungers. The south node releases. The north node in Aries has been hungering for a bolder, more confident and courageous self. The south node in Libra has been releasing relationships or relationship dynamics (whether in romantic, friendship or otherwise) that no longer serve us.
Can you identify important changes in your relationships and with new discoveries about yourself? You might have discovered something completely new about yourself that you didn't realize was there, but has, in fact, been there this entire time. Inevitably, whenever we discover new layers of who we are, some of our relationships change in order to make space for us to blossom into the next version of ourselves and our lives.
The north node in Aries/Mars sparks the desire to liberate ourselves and break free from relationship constraints or rigidity. You might have broken free from a community you’ve been apart of in order to spend more time alone and discover who you are when you’re not with other people. You might have liberated yourself from a relationship that had run its course (friendship or romantic).
Some relationships need to end in order for you to thrive. Some relationships become toxic and we need to let them go. Sometimes, we sacrifice who we are in order to stay in relationship with other people. The south node in Libra has been wanting to let this go. The north node in Aries has been hungering to feel confident, independent, take risks and initiate new beginnings.
The Sun is exalted in Aries and the Sun rules the heart. With Mars representing courage and the Sun ruling the heart, a key word of the north node in Aries is a brave heart. You may have needed A LOT of bravery to make some of the changes that you have made in your life over the last year and a half. It hasn't been easy. It's taken a lot of courage to move in a new direction that is more liberatory and embraces all of you.
Think about the last year and a half. What have you learned about yourself from your relationships? What relationships needed to end or change in order to make space for something else? What courageous decisions have you made for yourself?
